Cataracts Types

If cataracts occur, eye vision will become blurry. Regular eye exams can help to detect cataracts. Cataracts often include the following types: aging-related cataracts, congenital cataracts and traumatic cataracts.

Due to aging, older people often develop cataracts. Premature birth or genetic factors may lead to congenital cataracts. Some external factors, such as radiation, ultraviolet light, sudden injury, or diabetes, may cause traumatic cataracts.

In addition, the following factors may also increase cataract risk: cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption and pollution. Some medications, oral or topical, may also be potential factors.
