Eye Lens

The eye lens is a transparent and biconvex structure. This structure helps to refract light, so that the eye can focus on target objects.

The eye lens is also known as crystalline lens, which include three major parts: the crystalline lens capsule, the crystalline lens epithelium, and the crystalline lens fibers. The outermost layer is the crystalline lens capsule, which is transparent collagen membrane. The innermost layer is the crystalline lens fibers - they contain transparent and thin cells. In between is the crystalline lens epithelium, its cells help to regulate the homeostatic functions.

The common diseases include: cataracts (crystalline lens opacities), presbyopia (crystalline lens hardening), ectopia lentis (crystalline lens displacement).
