Iritis

Iritis, also known as anterior uveitis, refers to the iris inflammation. If the ciliary body is also inflamed, it is called iridocyclitis.

The common symptoms include: eye redness, eye pain, excessive tears, blurred vision or headache. Iritis may also result in glaucoma or cataract, causing vision impairment.

Sudden trauma or injury can cause the iris inflammation - this is called traumatic iritis. The following systemic diseases may cause iritis: sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and so on. Some infectious disease (e.g. syphilis, herpes simplex, herpes zoster, etc.) may also lead to iritis.
